Sadly Windows Media Player doesn't feature a tool for capturing frames from a movie and VLC only features a standardized single frame capture. While there are other ways of capturing several frames using VLC, these seem to change from version to version.

Capturing Movie Screenshots in KMPlayer
Once installed you will be able to launch the application from Start > All Programs > The KMPlayer > KMPlayer.
Using the Open File(s)… button on the lower-right of the display window (or by right-clicking anywhere on the player and selecting Open File(s)…) you can find the movie clip that you want to take screen captures from.
KMPlayer features extensive configuration settings and features that can be used to create screen captures based on a variety of timing options, and these are accessed via the Tools button on the main player. From here choose Playback Controls > ETC and use the Capture > Advanced option to open the screen capture controls.

For instance, capturing every frame in 60 seconds of footage will result in around 1500 captures, so you might set KMPlayer to capture every 12 frames, which is about two per second.
